Will the My Safe Florida Home Program pay for a roof replacement?

Modified on Mon, 2 Mar at 2:08 PM

You can make your roof safer by using stronger, hurricane‑resistant shingles. These shingles are put on with the right type and number of nails, so they are less likely to blow off during a storm. If eligible for a roof-related improvement, you may choose the type of roof you want — shingle, metal, or tile — when the roof is replaced.

If the Contractor has to take off your roof to do the recommended work, as outlined in the MSFH Initial Inspection Report, the cost to replace the roof covering can be included in the total project cost.

If recommended to install a Secondary Water Resistance (SWR), the whole area of the roof that is contiguous must be replaced and must include SWR to receive grant funds. A contiguous roof means all parts of the roof that connect together — for example, all parts of a flat roof, or all parts of a pitched roof. Grant funding cannot be used for roof patching or other partial repairs.
