If the master list of contractors approved for the program is no longer available, I see from the Florida Dept of Licenses and Regulation have more than 2  designations for contractors.  Building Contractor, Residential Contractor, and also "R" residential and "C" certified. My project is for windows and door only.  Does my contractor have to Residential + "R" and/or "C" ?

Hi Kyle!

Contractors must have a valid Florida license issued by the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR). The license must be either:

  • Certified, which starts with the letter “C” (for example: CGC123456), or
  • Registered, which starts with the letter “R” (for example: RGC123456).

It is the Homeowner’s responsibility to make sure the Contractor they hire has the correct license.

Example:
Before hiring a Contractor, ask for their license number. If it starts with a C or an R, you can look it up to confirm it is active and valid.

To check a Contractor’s license, visit the DBPR website here:  Licensing Portal - License Search

We do have a section on the website titled "Contractor Resource Center" that may be able to help. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there are a few options that Applicants can look into for completing their Recommended Improvements without having to pay the full balance upfront.

Hi Amber,

I am  in the program because I qualify as a low income senior. As such I do not have the money to put for the windows to be a grant

I have tried 7 different contractors who meet the listing criteria of being licensed, for windows and doors installations. None are willing to to get paid until the end inspection by the state of Florida to be paid.   If there a funding source to give a contractor the deposit or [payments they demand?
