Applicants who are incapable, due to age or disability, of installing opening protection shutters or devices that are not permanently affixed to their home, observed during the Initial Inspection, and identified on a MSFH Program Initial Inspection Report, may receive a recommendation for opening protection Improvements.
To qualify, the Applicant must be over the age of 60 or provide one of the following to prove disability:
- A disabled parking permit as outlined in Section 320.0848, F.S.;
- Documentation from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs indicating a permanent or total disability;
- Documentation from the U.S. Social Security Administration indicating a permanent or total disability; or
- Documentation from a Florida physician licensed pursuant to Chapters 458, 459, 460, 461, or 463, F.S., indicating the Applicant is disabled and not capable of installing shutters or devices not permanently affixed to their home.
